As the world quickly adapts to these unprecedented times, we are learning new ways to keep living our lives amidst the COVID-19 virus. Uganda, like most countries has put in place strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for the management of the virus which has limited our options to having a good time without worrying about putting ourselves at risk, breaching guidelines or getting back home before the clock strikes 9:00pm.
The wedding industry has been greatly impacted by the pandemic and having to tell our clients that we cannot do certain things like we did before pandemic times is a little disheartening. This has challenged me to get creative and seek out new ways of wedding & event planning safely within the given the circumstances.
In this article, I share a few key tips to throwing a Bridal Shower Soiree in Kampala during the Pandemic;
Find the right venue that adheres to COVID-19 SOP's and one that can accommodate an overnight stay for the entire Bridal Party. This can be a large hotel suite, cottage or your own house if you like.
Have all your party essentials booked and ready for the day including décor, drinks, music, outfits, hair, and makeup etc.
Book a professional photographer and agree a specific time slot for the photoshoot. You will need to have photographic evidence of all the gorgeous glam and festivities for the "gram".
Get party games, props and entertainment for the night. Designate this task to a member of the team so that it is not left unattended. Every group has the one bold comedian fun loving friend...yes, that one should coordinate this.
Remember to order the catering and sort out the menu at least a week in advance, taking into account, food allergies and drinks preferences. What's a great party without food and drinks?
Ensure all your service providers have precautionary measures in place and at the bare minimum, wear a mask and wash/sanitize their hands.
If you're thinking of splurging in Luxury, why not check your Bridal Party into a Villa. I personally like to recommend the Speke Apartments on Wampewo Avenue because of their central location, easy access to the city centre, and strict adherence to COVID-19 SOP's.
A Villa able to accommodate 6 people goes for $283.00 (UGX 1,035,500/-) per night, with check-in time as early as 10:00am. This way, you get everyone under one roof, have fun filled day and stay the night without worrying about beating curfew. Also, less travels mean less risk to exposure.
For day activities, they've got a Swimming pool great for photoshoot's and Calabash Spa & Salon on site for the Bridal Party to relax and unwind over a glass of champagne as they get their massages, facials, Mani's & Pedi's. This can also be a great place to get the Bridal Party's hair & makeup done. Click here to view the Spa & Salon Packages. For waxing, ask for an Esthetician called Leila. She'll make your experience as painless as possible. She's just the best.
The main purpose of a Bridal Shower is for all of the Bride's friends to pamper and shower her with gifts in anticipation of her new life as a married woman. Its important to get this right and ensure its pleasant, memorable and most importantly, safe during these times.
